Friends of King William
Animal Shelter
Friends of King William Animal Shelter (FOKWAS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization partnering with the Regional Animal Shelter (RAS). Friends is an all-volunteer board dedicated to supporting RAS to ensure every adoptable animal brought to the shelter can find a forever home. Friends will raise and provide funds for the animals at the shelter, and we will help to support RAS's low-cost programs for pets and their families.
Stories from RAS:
Why I Foster

I foster because dogs like Twist deserve more. She was abused, starved, neurologically impaired and her back had healed improperly after being broken. She was going to be transferred to another shelter, so I decided to adopt her. Despite everything, Twist was the happiest soul I’ve ever known. She taught me what resilience looks like and what a second chance can mean. Her body eventually gave out from her spine condition, but she was happy dog, who loved life and was loved. Now I foster to give that same chance to other dogs – those who are overlooked, misunderstood, or labeled “too much”. Through fostering, I help them find safety, healing and love. Every dog I take in is a promise that their past won’t define their future.
Twist got her second chance. I foster so others can too!
