Animal Shelter
Friends of King William Animal Shelter (FOKWAS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization partnering with the Regional Animal Shelter (RAS). Friends is an all-volunteer board dedicated to supporting RAS to ensure every adoptable animal brought to the shelter can find a forever home. Friends will raise and provide funds for the animals at the shelter, and we will help to support RAS's low-cost programs for pets and their families.

This event supports the ongoing needs of King William Regional Animal Shelter. The work there never really slows down. Animals continue to arrive needing medical care, heartworm treatment, recovery from injury, and the everyday support that helps them move toward better outcomes. This night exists to help make that work possible.

At its core, this is about more than an event—it’s about showing up for animals who are depending on a community that cares enough to act. Come ready to enjoy good food, music, and time with your community, knowing your presence helps support lifesaving efforts that continue long after the night ends.
Shelter Stories: Why I Foster
"I foster because dogs like Twist deserve more.

Twist came from neglect. She had been starved. Her back had healed incorrectly after it was broken. She lived with neurological challenges no dog should have to face. She was scheduled to be transferred out, and I couldn’t let her story end that way — so I adopted her.
And despite everything she had endured, she was the happiest soul I’ve ever known.
​
Twist showed me what resilience truly looks like. She showed me how deeply a second chance can matter. Her body eventually failed because of her spinal condition, but her spirit never did. She loved life. And she was deeply loved in return.
​
Now I foster to give other dogs that same chance.
The overlooked ones. The misunderstood ones. The ones labeled “too much.”

Fostering is my way of saying: your past does not decide your future. In my home, they find safety. Stability. Patience. Love.

The Shelter We Support:
King William Regional Animal Shelter
The King William Regional Animal Shelter is an open-intake facility serving the communities of King William and King & Queen Counties.

As an open-intake shelter, they accept animals from local residents who are no longer able to care for their pets, as well as stray dogs and cats found within those jurisdictions. This means their doors remain open to animals who need a safe place to land — regardless of circumstance.
​
The shelter provides daily care, medical attention, enrichment, and support while working to reunite lost pets with their families or place them into loving adoptive homes. Their role in the community is essential, ensuring that animals have protection, compassion, and a pathway forward when they need it most.
